Julie Simon is an world-renowned cake and sugar artist based in Los Angeles. She has gained acclaim for her grand cake sculptures commissioned by A-List celebrities such as Kylie Jenner and Kevin Hart, Silicon Valley VIPs, and international royalty. Her work has been featured in multiple media outlets, such as The Washington Post, Harpers Bazaar, The New York Post, The Week, Cosmopolitan, People, Bravo TV and many more.
Before dedicating herself to her cake artistry, Julie had a full-time executive career in media. The daughter of Grammy-award winning and Tony-award nominated Broadway composer, Lucy Simon, and niece of rock legend, Carly Simon, she also spent several years as a singer-songwriter and recording artist, performing at such legendary venues as NYC’s Apollo and Beacon Theaters.

Elli Saayman is the baker/ maker/ cake designer/ and owner of the Turquoise Squirrel Patisserie based in Johannesburg South Africa . She has an Honours Degree in Fine Arts and has been making confections and cakes since 2014; specialising in Sugar-flowers and Wedding Cake making.

She is a multi-award winning cake artist and has been published internationally (Cake Masters Magazine, DIY wedding cakes, to only mention a few) and has several cake-decorating classes available online, as well as a fun YouTube channel with some short tips and tricks for your bakery.

I’m the owner and founder of Grace Stevens, formally Cupcakes by Design. I’m a Cape Town based cake decorator, instructor and author of two books. My first book, Celebration Cakes, Step by Step with Fondant (Penguin Random House) was awarded the Gourmand Award for the Best South African Dessert Book in 2012. My second book, Cake Decorating with Grace Stevens was released in November 2014.

I’ve been awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze awards for my cake entries in numerous competitions. And I regularly do demonstrations throughout South Africa, trade and cake shows.

Additionally, I travel throughout South Africa to demonstrate and teach the art of cake decorating, teaching my unique techniques with buttercream and cake design. Students travel to Cape Town from all over Africa to take part in my workshops. My collaboration with Bosch offers me the opprtunity to teach the art of baking both in Cape Town and Johannesburg.

I am a sugar flower artist, and it’s by chance I fell into flower making when taking cake decorating classes for a fun new hobby over 15 years ago.  I found it exciting to make flowers look lifelike and I haven’t stopped making them since.  I enter competitions at the shows I attend and I have won several 1st places awards.

The most exciting awards I received have been at Cake International Birmingham, England winning Bronze and Silver and the San Diego Cake Show winning Best of Show. I teach and demo sugar flowers across the country, I have published tutorials in various cake publications and I honestly love anything sugar flower related.

Retha Joubert is a sugar artist living and working in Pretoria, South Africa. She matriculated from Pro Arte in 2000 with a scholarship to study art. In 2006 she received her degree in fine art from Tshwane University of Technology.

Colette Peters started her cake design busines, Colette’s Cakes, in 1989. Before this, she worked as a designer at Tiffany & Co. Design director John Loring asked Colette to create cakes for his classic books Tiffany Taste (Doubleday, 1986) and The Tiffany Wedding (1988), which introduced her groundbreaking techniques, such as using gold and silver leaf on cakes, her crooked cakes, and her gift box cakes. This exposure led to a contract for her first book.

My baking journey started 8 years ago when we needed a last-minute cake for my daughter’s birthday party. No one was able to make one on such short notice so I took a deep breath, stepped up and made it myself. I absolutely loved the experience. The bug bit and I spent every free minute I had reading books and practicing my new found skill. In 2013 I decided to leave the corporate world and started my own baking business from home. A year later I was contacted by one of the biggest novelty cake bakeries in South Africa and asked to join their team as a cake artist. I worked with them for almost 5 years learning, experimenting with new techniques and pushing my creative boundaries. In early 2019, I decided it was time to venture out on my own again. I started teaching sugar art full time – from basic courses to advanced techniques. My speciality is creating creative outside-of-the-box cakes which are as beautiful as they are tasty.

In 2005, when my first son was born, I was looking for a way to express myself without using my favorite medium oils on canvas. I clicked on flickr and suddenly was whisked down a rabbit hole into a world of cakes and cupcakes. Flickr was an online picture sharing site in which cake decorators formed groups to showcase their delightful dainties and inspire each other. I was known as Zalita or cupcake d’lights online and made cute decorative cupcakes to share with my cake friends, from there the interest in my work grew and I started selling decorative cupcakes locally with my photography rights being sold in Europe. I’m totally self thought and today I love teaching and creating large cakes and small with beautiful handpainted designs. I turn my cakes into my canvas to create edible works of art.

Ivy has over 20 years’ experience of baking and cake decorating. This passionate started as a child and she followed it through with evening classes in cake decorating while at University.
